April the 18th is National Animal Crackers Day. How did a cracker/cookie get so popular? I loved animal crackers, figuring out what animal it was and biting their legs and head off was great fun. I even liked carrying that box around by the string handle. I decided to find out the history behind them.

Cherry Coke

Outrageous!

My first experience with a Cherry flavored Coca-Cola was at Alpha Drugs, in Alpharetta, Georgia, when I was in Elementary School. My friend, Ross Stephens, would order it at the fountain and one day I did too, and I liked it!

NuGrape Soda

John James Mangham discovered the formula for NuGrape in 1906, along with a fellow pharmacist, in Bremen, north west, Georgia.

I recently got a 1954 bottle from Walter, that he found at his parent’s Lawhorn Farm in Thomasville, Georgia. This particular bottle was bottled in Valdosta, Georgia. I thought I would do a little research on NuGrape Soda.

Mars, Incorporated is the manufacturer of confectionery, pet food, and other food products and a provider of animal care services. It is owned by the Mars family, one of the richest in the world. Franklin Clarence Mars started the Mars Candy Factory in 1911.

Feltman’s Hot Dogs

I was at a birthday party, for my friend Katie, and the host, Mike, announced (during the DejaBlue Grass Band set) that he was grilling up some Feltman’s hot dogs because he wanted people to experience the best hot dog ever. I was skeptical, being a Varsity man, and full of delicious barbecue and slaw that was provided at the party. I was sitting by the grill, and just couldn’t resist, so I tried one. I was already stuffed but I have to admit, best hot dog ever!
