A slingshot is a simple handheld projectile weapon consisting essentially of a forked frame, an elastic band or pair of bands, and a pouch or cradle for holding a projectile. Although the familiar modern slingshot is relatively recent, it belongs to a much older family of devices that use stored elastic energy to propel objects. Its simplicity has made it useful for recreation, hunting, pest control, competition, and, in some circumstances, warfare.
