12″ Singles – Be With You

The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12″) is a type of vinyl record with wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a “single” or a few related sound tracks on each surface. This allows for louder levels to be cut on the disc, which in turn gives a wider dynamic range, better sound quality, commonly used in disco and dance music for DJs in clubs.

My Favorite Albums – A Different Light – The Bangles

Walking down your street, with a love that I can’t hide
I’ve got one thing on my mind, yeah, I’ll even sacrifice my pride

My second favorite album, by The Bangles, is their January 2, 1986 “Different Light”. It came about 1 1/2 years after their debut studio album “All Over The Place“. “Different Light”, on Columbia Records, would be their most successful album reaching number 2 on the Billboard 200. Five singles were released from this album.

Colored Vinyl – The September Gurls EP – Big Star

I loved you, well, nevermind, I’ve been crying all the time

Back in the 1980s/1990s, I was a huge Bangles collector. They had covered the song “September Gurls” by the band Big Star who recorded it on their second album, the 1974 “Radio City”. I had never heard of Big Star until I learned this from the Bangles. I was in the Atlanta record store “Wax’n’Fax” and saw this “September Gurls EP” import.

My Favorite Albums – All Over The Place – The Bangles

One of my favorite albums is “All Over The Place” by the Bangles. I had just gotten a job at MSA in the mailroom, thanks to my friend Thomas F Jones, (I would later become a computer technician there). Their radio was tuned to WZGC (Z-93) and daily I would hear Walk Like An Egyptian and Manic Monday.
