Beach nourishment, sometimes called beach replenishment or beach restoration, is a coastal engineering practice in which sand or sediment is added to a shoreline to combat erosion and widen beaches that have been diminished by waves, storms, or rising sea levels. The process has become an increasingly common response to shoreline retreat in places where natural sediment supply has been interrupted by human development,
