What Waits Below is a 1984 adventure/science fiction/horror film directed by Don Sharp. The movie is also known under the title Secrets of the Phantom Caverns. The movie tagline was “Underground, no-one can hear you die”. It intertwines elements of military adventure with subterranean science fiction, resulting in a unique but often overlooked piece of 1980s cinema. The story follows Major Elwood, played by Robert Powell, who leads a team on a mission to locate a secret military transmitter deep within a cave system in Central America.

Invaders From Mars (1986)

There’s no place on Earth to hide

I watched the 1986 Cannon Pictures science fiction horror film “Invaders From Mars” on Svengoolie. Elaborate creature and visual effects were supplied by Stan Winston[1] and John Dykstra[2] in this re-make of the 1953 film. The movie was directed by Tobe Hooper an American director, screenwriter, and producer best known for his work in the horror genre. The British Film Institute cited Hooper as one of the most influential horror filmmakers of all time.
