Windy’s Desert Island Discs

Seven stranded castaways, well eight including Windy, here on Gilligan’s Isle

by Windy (store mannequin)

Melody Hill was the Circle Sky Records official magazine while we were open between 2002 and 2010.

Windy, Nancy, and Valleri were our Circle Sky store mannequins. They kept an eye in the store 24 hours a day in their groovy 60’s outfits.  Windy was named after the Association song, Nancy after Nancy Sinatra, and Valleri, yes you guessed it, after the Monkees’ hit single.

Fanzine Reviews

Groovy reads

By Glynis Ward

Melody Hill was the Circle Sky Records official magazine while we were open between 2002 and 2010. That black siding on the shed is just tar paper like you use on a roof. The shed had been for firewood and open on that end. I had enclosed that side with scrap wood and was going to use vinyl siding, eventually, to cover the tar paper. The paint is dry and cannot be washed or rubbed off. The water is not on to the hose Donnie is holding. It was a fun photoshoot, a lot of laughing that day.

By Donnie Thompson

Melody Hill was the Circle Sky Records official magazine while we were open between 2002 and 2010. Donnie recollected “The yellow submarine is made by Corgi. One underneath and I think one behind.”

Alison Krauss & Union Station

The voice of an angel

by Doyle Tatum

Melody Hill was the Circle Sky Records official magazine while we were open between 2002 and 2010. This is the color cover of issue number 3. The photo was taken by me before Circle Sky even opened. We were at my house painting the LP, CD, and 45 stands for the new store. I had some primer left in the spray gun and while cleaning it out I painted Circle Sky on the side of my shed. I thought it would be funny to make it look like Donnie Thompson and Richard Golden had gotten in trouble for this and were being made clean it off!

Abba’s Dark Song Cycle

Abba offering up their darkly beautiful swan song

by Donnie Thompson

Melody Hill was the Circle Sky Records official magazine while we were open between 2002 and 2010. The cover shown here is a reprint because we handed out all the original copies and decided to print this “Premiere Issue Collectors Edition”. Donnie Thompson came up with the ‘zine name. It was a song, written by Barkan and Adams, and was the B-side to The Archies “Sugar, Sugar” 45. Sang by Ron Dante and about a boy and girl going up Melody Hill where everything is beautiful to “kiss away the hours”.
