Rick Davies Dies

Supertramp co-founder has died at 81 years old.

Richard “Rick” Davies was born on July 22, 1944, in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, the son of Betty and Dick Davies. He grew up in a working-class family and showed an early interest in music, first playing drums before switching to piano, inspired by jazz and blues pianists such as Memphis Slim. He studied art at Swindon College but left before finishing when his father became ill, taking a job as a welder while continuing to play in local bands such as Vince and the Vigilantes and later Rick’s Blues.

Vic Flick Dies

In 1962, Flick played the iconic guitar riff for the “James Bond Theme” in the first Bond film, Dr. No.

Vic Flick is an iconic English musician and composer best known for his association with the James Bond franchise and his significant contributions to film and television music. Victor Harold Flick was born on May 14, 1937, in Worcester Park, Surrey, England. Growing up in a musical family, Flick became interested in music and began learning the piano. However, his fascination with the guitar began in his teenage years, inspired by the evolving sounds of jazz and skiffle music during the 1950s. He honed his skills on the guitar, eventually becoming proficient in both classical and contemporary styles.

The Who, formed in London in 1964, is a British rock group among the most popular and influential bands of the 1960s and ’70s. Their contributions to rock music include the development of Marshall Stack, large PA systems, the use of the synthesizer, Townshend’s feedback and power chord guitar technique, and the development of the rock opera. They are cited as an influence by many hard rock, punk rock, power pop, and mod bands, and their songs are still regularly played.

My Favorite Albums – Relayer – Yes

Relayer was the first Yes album I owned. I took it to high school and we enjoyed it there in Mr. Thomas’ Social Studies office where I was an aide. I’m not 100% sure but I believe the album art attracted me to the purchase. It is artwork by Roger Dean who drew many Yes covers and the “Yes” logo itself. I have inducted Yes into my Music Hall of Fame.
