Artists have often written, and performed, songs with the sounds of a past era. Here I’ll discuss some of the fun ones that I have enjoyed over the years. I’ll start with six of my favorites, and then in Part Two, I’ll expand this list. Enjoy!

Vic Flick Dies

In 1962, Flick played the iconic guitar riff for the “James Bond Theme” in the first Bond film, Dr. No.

Vic Flick is an iconic English musician and composer best known for his association with the James Bond franchise and his significant contributions to film and television music. Victor Harold Flick was born on May 14, 1937, in Worcester Park, Surrey, England. Growing up in a musical family, Flick became interested in music and began learning the piano. However, his fascination with the guitar began in his teenage years, inspired by the evolving sounds of jazz and skiffle music during the 1950s. He honed his skills on the guitar, eventually becoming proficient in both classical and contemporary styles.

Terry Kirkman Dies

Terry Kirkman is a musician best known as a founding member and songwriter for the American rock band The Association. Born on December 12, 1939, in Salina, Kansas, and raised in Chino, California, Kirkman has had a long and influential career in the music industry. He moved to Los Angeles in 1963 with his friend Jules Gary Alexander and briefly played in groups with Frank Zappa.

Meco

Meco’s Star Wars Theme proved so popular that it outsold the original William’s score. It also became the first number one hit for Casablanca / Millennium Records and went platinum.

Domenico Monardo is best known as Meco (sometimes Meco Monardo). He is an American musician and producer born in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania November 29, 1939. Building model ships, science fiction, and movies were his childhood hobbies. His dad played the trombone in a small Italian band but young Meco chose the slide trombone.
