Cynthia Weil was an American songwriter and lyricist known for her contributions to numerous hit songs from the 1960s and beyond. Born on October 18, 1940, in New York City, Cynthia Weil grew up on the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side of Manhattan in a Conservative Jewish family.

Mele Kalikimaka

Mele Kalikimaka (Meh-le Keh-liki-makah) is Hawaiian for “Merry Christmas”. In the song, by the same name, I’ve always had a mondegreen, misheard lyrics in the song. I thought they were saying “Mele Kalikimaka is the wise way to say Merry Christmas to you” when the correct lyric is “Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way to say Merry Christmas to you”

Christmas Vacation (1989) – The Review Continued…

I watch the Warner Brothers Christmas Vacation every year at Christmas and I reviewed it previously – check here. The movie originated as a John Hughes short story called “Christmas ’59,” that appeared in the December 1980 issue of National Lampoon magazine.

Christmas Vacation (1989)

I’ve been watching the 1989 National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation every year at Christmas since the 90’s. I first owned the DVD and now the Blu-ray but there is no difference between the two. The movie is about Clark Griswold, Chevy Chase (Saturday Night Live, The Groove Tube, Oh! Heavenly Dog, Caddyshack, Modern Problems, Vacation, European Vacation, Spies Like Us, Three Amigos, Vegas Vacation, 2015 Vacation, a writer on the Smothers Brothers Show, Community) trying to have a fun, old fashioned Christmas but everything goes crazy especially when he doesn’t get his expected bonus from work.
