The Moody Blues – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame

Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day’s useless energy spent

The Moody Blues were formed in Birmingham, England, in 1964, emerging from the fertile Midlands beat scene that had already produced The Spencer Davis Group and other rhythm-and-blues-inflected acts. Originally conceived as a harmony-driven R&B band, the group took its name from the Duke Ellington composition “Mood Indigo,” reflecting both their jazz awareness and their desire for a slightly more sophisticated image than many contemporaries.

“Money” / “Any Colour You Like” – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame – SOS Award

This “Stand Out Single” contains a bass riff that is often cited as one of the most recognizable in rock history.

“Money” is one of Pink Floyd’s most iconic songs, originally appearing on their 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon. Written by Roger Waters, the song was released as a single in the United States in May 1973 and later in other territories. “Money” is notable for its distinctive 7/4 time signature during the verses — quite unusual for rock music —

Richard Cory

A poem that describes a man named Richard Cory, who is admired and envied by the townspeople.

“Richard Cory” is a poem written by American poet Edwin Arlington Robinson, first published in The Children of the Night in 1897. Robinson, who was born in 1869 in Head Tide, Maine, often explored themes of personal despair, human isolation, and the dissonance between public perception and private reality in his poetry.

Heart – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame

My third inductee of 2024, a band I’ve seen in concert several times.

Heart is an American rock band that rose to fame in the mid-1970s and continued to achieve success over the ensuing decades. The band is particularly known for its strong lead vocals and distinctive guitar work, spearheaded by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. Their music spans various genres including rock, hard rock, and folk rock, characterized by powerful ballads and energetic rock anthems.

Super Hero Songs (Part One)

Is he strong? Listen, Bud!, He’s got radioactive blood

In these posts I’ll explore some music that deals with our comic book heroes. I’ll list some of my favorites about superheroes who arrive in the nick of time and save the day. Some of these are about our Marvel and DC idols while others about some less well-known heroes. There are songs about Superman, Spiderman, the Hulk, Iron Man, Magneto, Titanium Man, Flash Gordon, Batman and Robin, the Greatest American Hero, Dragonfly, and many more.

Denny Laine Dies

Far have I travelled and much have I seen, Dark distant mountains with valleys of green, Past painted deserts the sunsets on fire, As he carries me home to the Mull of Kintyre

Denny Laine was born Brian Frederick Arthur Hines on October 29, 1944  in the Channel Islands, England, to parents Herbert Edward Arthur Hines and Eva Lillian Hines (née Bassett). He grew up in Tyseley, Birmingham, England, where he attended Yardley Grammar School. He took up the guitar as a boy, inspired by gypsy jazz musician Django Reinhardt.

Paul McCartney – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame

My second 2023 inductee, 14th overall, is Sir Paul McCartney. He is the first to be in my hall twice, once for The Beatles and now for his post-Beatle career.

The Beatles’ bassist, vocalist, and songwriter would continue solo beginning in 1970 at the sign of the break-up of the band. He would release his first LP, McCartney, a month before the release of The Beatles’ swansong Let It Be. The album, rich with experimentation, has McCartney performing all instruments and vocals himself, aside from some backing vocals performed by Linda McCartney. It also contained the song, “Maybe I’m Amazed”.

Ford’s BBQ

The Best Thing to come out of 2020

Last Updated Sep 26, 2022 @ 8:47 pm

I was shocked twice today about a new restaurant we tried. First, I would have thought this BBQ had been here for years yet it opened in the fall of 2021. The second was how great the service and food were and I’ll definitely be returning here. It was opened by pitmasters Justin Bradford and Jon Jaffin who pride themselves on high-quality smoked meats, made-from-scratch Southern sides with a Mexican twist, and special housemade sauces.

What was the first album you became infatuated with and changed the way you listened to music?

What is your album choice?

– Windy

Melody Hill was the Circle Sky Records official magazine while we were open between 2002 and 2010.

Greetings From Windy (Melody Hill Executive Editor)

Hello Melody Hill readers. This issue is all about that wonderful musical invention called a record. Vinyl collectors and fans have a culture that is all their own. So if your universe spins at 33 or 45 this issue is dedicated to you. For this issue, we decided to ask the Circle Sky Staff to name the first album that changed their musical world. We then asked some of our musician friends to do the same and the results are
spread out among these pages. Happy reading!
