Some scary tunes for your turntable.
There are lots of songs that relate to the Halloween holiday. In these posts I’ll write about some of my favorites. This will include low hanging fruit as well as some you may have not heard. No matter the situation I hope some of these songs will get you into the Halloween spirit (get it?). Do I even have a ghost of a chance listing some you like…..ok I’ll stop.
Songs that contain “Learning to Fly” in the lyrics.
“Learning to Fly” is a classic song by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, written by Petty himself along with Jeff Lynne. Released in 1991 as part of their album “Into the Great Wide Open,” the track became a fan favorite and climbed the charts, reaching number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I will discuss a whole album of covers by the band Deep Purple this time. It is called Turning to Crime and was released on November 21, 2022. The album was created following a suggestion by Bob Ezrin, who has been Deep Purple’s producer since 2013.
My 4th inductee is the incredible Pink Floyd. In 1973, a friend of mine had the 45 of “Money/Any Colour You Like” and I was hooked. Soon, I would, like everyone else, buy a copy of the Dark Side of the Moon LP. I later went back to their beginnings, and as a psychedelic fan, was not disappointed.
