“Vincent,” written and performed by American singer-songwriter Don McLean, was released in 1971 on his landmark album American Pie. The song, sometimes subtitled “Starry, Starry Night,” is a poignant tribute to the Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh, whose tragic life and luminous art deeply moved McLean.

There are lots of songs that relate to the Halloween holiday. In these posts I’ll write about some of my favorites. This will include low hanging fruit as well as some you may have not heard. No matter the situation I hope some of these songs will get you into the Halloween spirit (get it?). Do I even have a ghost of a chance listing some you like…..ok I’ll stop.

“Shangri-La” is a fictional utopian paradise described in James Hilton’s 1933 novel Lost Horizon. It is depicted as a secluded and harmonious valley in the Himalayas, where inhabitants experience prolonged life and inner peace. The term has since become synonymous with an idealized, peaceful retreat. Hilton’s concept drew inspiration from Tibetan myths and Western fascination with Eastern mysticism.

Randy Meisner was an American musician and songwriter best known as a founding member of the iconic rock band, the Eagles. He was born on March 8, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, USA. He developed an interest in music at a young age and learned to play the guitar and bass.
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair, warm smell of colitis rising up through the air.
Hotel California is an Eagles song written by Don Felder, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey. The song opens with the lines, “On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air”. This had me always wondering what Colitas was. I had assumed it was a plant, or flower, growing in the desert. I wasn’t really that wrong.
