I watched the Cats 2019 movie on Netflix DVD. I’ll start off by saying I have never seen any of the Cats Broadway musicals. I’m a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber especially Jesus Christ Superstar. You can definitely tell that this is his work….undoubtedly. I read some of the reviews on the film and went in realizing that they were not fans.
I disagree with a lot of their analysis, like saying that they missed the large stage sets where the people playing the cats looked cat-size. In the movie all the sets are 2.5 to 3 times larger that real life, just for this purpose.
I thought that Francesca Hayward as Victoria the White Cat is a great ballet dancer and did a great job singing her parts. She was my favorite cat in the film.
The critics also stated that they didn’t think Taylor Swift did a good job singing in the musical but I thought her song was the highlight of the movie. She also sings the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Taylor Swift penned new song in the credits and it is wonderful.
Andrew Lloyd Webber is a producer and musical director for Cats. I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars and I’ll give the extras on the DVD, 5 out of 5 as they are excellent. Read more on the movie at Wikipedia, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
