Eddie Van Halen Dies

Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie Van Halens son (and current bassist for Van Halen) wrote today October 6, 2020 “I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning”.

The Dutch-American, Eddie Van Halen was the co-founder of the band Van Halen and was songwriter, producer, inventor and guitarist.

He was born January 26, 1955 in Amsterdam, lived in the Netherlands and moved and became a naturalized US citizen in 1962. Eddie and his bother Alex formed a band called Genesis in 1972, changed the name along the way to Van Halen and was offered a record contract in 1977 by Warner Brothers.

Eddie married Valerie Bertinelli in 1980, had one son – Wolfgang – and were divorced in 2007. He had been struggling with alcoholism and drug use since he was 12, chronic avascular necrosis, and tongue cancer. Eddie was 65 years old and one of the greatest rock guitar players out there.
