Rita Wilson is an American actress, singer songwriter and producer. She was born in Hollywood, California October 26, 1956 as Margarita Ibrahimoff. Her mother was Greek and her dad a Bulgarian Muslim. Rita married Tom Hanks in 1988. As an actress, it started in 1972 on the Brady Bunch episode “Greg’s Triangle”.
She has appeared in shows such as Movin’ On, Lou Grant, Hawaii Five-O, BJ and the Bear, Bosom Buddies, MASH, Happy Days, Three’s Company, Who’s the Boss, Thirtysomething, Moonlighting, Tales From the Crypt, Mad About You, Frazier, Curb Your Enthusiasm,
Law and Order: SVU and The Good Wife. In movies she has been in such films as Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, Teen Witch, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Sleepless in Seattle, Now and Then, That Thing You Do!, Jingle All the Way,
1998 Psycho, Runaway Bride, The Story of Us, Old Dogs, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. As a producer she did My Big Fat Greek Wedding and as Executive producer – Mamma Mia!, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
Rita Wilson also is a singer with 4 albums, 2012 AM/FM, 2016 Rita Wilson, 2016 Bigger Picture and the 2019 Halfway to Home. She has a great voice, does some nice covers and writes a lot of her songs.
In April 2015, Wilson announced that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. In March 2020 her and Tom Hanks had Covid-19 with just minor symptoms. In 2016 she promoted her Rita Wilson LP by opening for the band Chicago on their tour. In March 2019, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
