Mulan (2020)

I watched the 2020 Walt Disney Pictures action drama Mulan on Netflix DVD. It is the live action adaptation of the 1998 Disney animated Mulan. Hua Mulan goes into training for battle, against invading Rouran warriors, hiding her identity as a female. The movie was directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider) and produced by Chris Bender (American Pie, Final Destination, The Butterfly Effect, The Hangover, I Am Number Four, 2015 Vacation, Rings, My Spy).

The movie stars Yifei Liu as Mulan (Chinese-American actress), Donnie Yen (One of Hong Kings top action stars and is well-versed in Tai Chi, Boxing, Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, Hapkido, Taekwondo, Karate,

Muay Thai, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wing Chun, and Wushu), Jason Scott Lee (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Mowgli in Disney’s The Jungle Book), Gong Li as Xianniang the  witch (Chinese award winning actress) and Jet Li as the Emperor of China (Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, Unleashed, War, The Expendables 1, 2 and 3). Mulan was filmed in New Zealand and China from August to November 2018 and released March 9, 2020.

Because of Covid-19 is was in limited theaters and mainly released on Disney + for a premium. It was released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 10, 2020.

The visual effects were provided by by Sony Pictures Imageworks, Weta Digital, Framestore, and Image Engine. A sequel has been announced. I really enjoyed the movie and will give it 4.8 out of 5. For more information read Wikipedia, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
