Outbreak (1995)

I watched this star-studded Warner Brothers Picture Company 1995 movie Outbreak on AMC. It is a Wolfgang Peterson film (The Neverending Story, Enemy Mine, Shattered, In the Line of Fire, Air Force One, The Perfect Storm, Troy, Poseidon) which he was also executive producer and director. The movie is based on Richard Preston’s 1994 nonfiction book “The Hot Zone”. In 1967 a virus infects a whole town in the African Jungle.

To keep the virus a secret, US officers Donald McClintock played by Donald Sutherland (The Dirty Dozen, M*A*S*H, Kelly’s Heroes, The Eagle Has Landed, The Kentucky Fried Movie, National Lampoon’s Animal House, Invasion of the Body Snatchers,

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Italian Job, Lord of War, The Hunger Games movies, Forsaken, Ad Astra) and Billy Ford played by Morgan Freeman (Brubaker, That Was Then… This Is Now, Driving Miss Daisy, The Bonfire of the Vanities, The Shawshank Redemption,

Deep Impact, Along Came a Spider, Bruce Almighty, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Olympus Has Fallen, Lucy, Angel Has Fallen, Electric Company) have the whole town and its 2800 inhabitants, bombed and completely destroyed to contain the infection.

Now, 28 yeas later, Colonial Sam Daniels played by Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Papillon, Marathon Man, Kramer vs Kramer, Tootsie, Rain Man, Dick Tracey, Meet the Fockers)

is sent to investigate a similar outbreak in Zaire. The virus now appears in a small town in California, Cedar Creek, and they must find a cure and fast.

Some other stars are Rene Russo (Major League, Freejack, Lethal Weapon 3, In the Line of Fire, Get Shorty, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Endgame),

Kevin Spacey (A Time to Kill, L.A. Confidential, American Beauty, K-PAX, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Superman Returns, Moon, Baby Driver, House of Cards),

Cuba Gooding Jr. (Gladiator, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire, Pearl Harbor, Zoolander, End Game, Hardwired, Machete Kills, American Horror Story: Roanoke),

Patrick Dempsey (race car driver, Grey’s Anatomy, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Scream 3) and J. T. Walsh (Tin Men, Good Morning Vietnam, Wired, Misery, Backdraft, A Few Good Men, Miracle on 34th Street, Sling Blade, Pleasantville, Dark Skies).

I liked this movie, the helicopter chase scene is great, and will give it 4 out of 5. For more information read Wikipedia, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
