This is a pink vinyl version of The Archies’ “Sugar, Sugar”/”Bang-Shang-A-Lang” 45rpm record. Originally, “Bang-Shang-A-Lang” had the B-side of “Truck Driver”, and “Sugar, Sugar” was backed with “Melody Hill”. “Bang-Shang-A-Lang”. As you will see in the upcoming photo mine was not as pink as the Cleopatra website shows it.
My first Archies single and favorite song was “Bang-Shang-A-Lang”/”Truck Driver”. It was included on their debut album (Calendar 1006) and reached number 22 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. “Sugar, Sugar”/”Melody Hill” was from their second album, Everything’s Archie (Calendar KES-103), and was number one on the 1969 Billboard Hot 100 chart and remained there for four weeks. It was number one in the UK for 8 weeks. “Sugar, Sugar” was the 1969 US number-one single of the year.
This single is on Goldenlane Records (CLO 1807) which is based in Marina Del Ray, California, a subdivision of Cleopatra Records, rereleasing legacy artists. Including reggae, pop, ska, and rockabilly from the ’60s through the ’80s. This was a “Limited Edition” although there is no number of releases anywhere to be found. It was released on June 11, 2021.
At the time of this post, Cleopatra had 33 in stock for $12.98 each.
