Michael Primeau is a video forensic expert that I have seen many times on the History Channel’s “The Proof is Out There”, which investigates the world’s most mysterious videos, photos, and audio recordings, and uses the best technology and experts to render a credible verdict.

Michael Primeau was born in 1991 in Ferndale, Michigan. Instead of playing with electronic toys as a child, he disassembled them to see how they worked. His dad would bring home old computer systems, that 8-year-old Michael would treat the same and eventually began repairing.

He attended Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI. where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Audio Engineering Technology in 2018. Continuing his education, he received his degree in Audio Engineering Technology in 2018. He is good at troubleshooting and solving complex problems, and incredibly talented at repairing computers, audio recording equipment, and electronic circuitry.

Michael began his career at Primeau Forensics in 2009, 25 years after the company was founded in 1984 by his father, Edward. Subsequently, having grown up around his father’s work, you can almost say he was born to become a forensic expert.

In order to protect the integrity of Primeau Forensics and its clients, the analysis must be approached from an unbiased, third-party, scientific perspective. Michael helps the judge, jury, litigators, and clients answer complicated questions and helps present complex data with a simple understanding.

Michael is currently a member of LEVA (Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association), AES, and IAI. He has completed training through LEVA in Video Forensic Analysis and Photographic Video Comparison.

He has also completed training with the University of Colorado Denver Center for Media Forensics in Forensic Audio Authentication and Audio Enhancement and Forensic Image Authentication. He has also been certified as a Forensic Video Technician through LEVA.

Michael was also recently voted to be the chair of the video committee with SWGDE (The Scientific Working Group on Digital Evidence). In addition to his professional work, Michael enjoys playing the drums and guitar, honing in on his photography skills, and drinking copious amounts of coffee.

His primary casework is in the civil sector, providing forensic investigations as an expert at the state and federal levels.

Along with actively working on cases, Michael has consulted with the media on several cases including appearing on The Travel Channel’s popular TV series “Expedition Unknown” as well as “The Proof is Out There” which he has appeared in 38 episodes so far (2021-2023).
