I just heard a new “Diner topic” on the Jukebox Diner with Lou Simon radio show on Sirius/XM. It was to come up with songs that open and close with the same exact line of lyric. I thought this sounded fun so I started coming up with some. There are a lot more that I would have ever thought so here we go.
I’ve Seen All Good People

“I’ve Seen All Good People” is a classic progressive rock song by the English band Yes, featured on their 1971 album “The Yes Album.” The song is divided into two distinct parts: “Your Move” and “All Good People.” Written by Yes members Jon Anderson and Chris Squire, the track showcases intricate vocal harmonies, Squire’s distinctive bass playing, and Steve Howe’s acoustic guitar work.

“Your Move” features chess-inspired, anti-war, lyrics with a serene and pastoral feel, while “All Good People” introduces a more upbeat, anthemic tone. The song’s lyrics are often interpreted as a reflection on life’s journey and the choices one makes. The intricate musical arrangements, coupled with its timeless appeal, have cemented “I’ve Seen All Good People” as one of Yes’s signature compositions in the progressive rock genre.
I've Seen All Good People written by Jon Anderson and Chris Squire
I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
So satisfied I'm on my way
I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
So satisfied I'm on my way
Take a straight and stronger course
To the corner of your life
Make the white queen run so fast
She hasn't got time to make you a wife
'Cause it's time, it's time in time with your time
And its news is captured
For the queen to use!
Move me on to any black square
Use me anytime you want
Just remember that the goal
Is for us all to capture all we want (Move me on to any black square)
Don't surround yourself with yourself
Move on back two squares
Send an instant karma to me
Initial it with loving care (Don't surround yourself)
'Cause it's time, it's time in time with your time

Ziggy Stardust

“Ziggy Stardust” is a pivotal track from David Bowie’s 1972 concept album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.” Bowie, who wrote the song, created the Ziggy Stardust character as a fictional androgynous rock star from outer space. The narrative unfolds through the album, exploring themes of fame, self-destruction, and the blurred lines between reality and illusion.

The song’s driving guitar riffs, performed by Mick Ronson, and Bowie’s charismatic vocal delivery contribute to its iconic status in glam rock. “Ziggy Stardust” serves as a linchpin in Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust narrative, capturing the essence of the character’s rise and fall. The song’s enduring legacy is evident in its influence on subsequent generations of musicians and its consistent presence in lists of the greatest rock songs.
Ziggy Stardust written by David Bowie
Ziggy played guitar
Jamming good with Weird and Gilly
And the Spiders from Mars
He played it left hand
But made it too far
Became the special man
Then we were Ziggy's band
Now Ziggy really sang
Screwed-up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan
He could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave 'em to hang
They came on so loaded, man
Well-hung and snow-white tan
So where were the Spiders
While the fly tried to break our bones
With just the beer light to guide us
So we bitched about his fans
And should we crush his sweet hands? (Oh)
Mm-hmm
Ziggy played for time
Jiving us that we were voodoo
The kids were just crass
He was the nazz
With God-given ass
He took it all too far
But, boy, could he play guitar
Making love with his ego
Ziggy sucked up into his mind, ah
Like a leper messiah
When the kids had killed the man
I had to break up the band
Oh, yeah
Ooh
Ziggy played guitar
Dear Prudence

“Dear Prudence” is a song by The Beatles from their 1968 double album “The Beatles,” commonly known as the White Album. The lyrics encourage Prudence to come out and enjoy life.

The song is characterized by its fingerpicking guitar style and lush harmonies. Lennon’s soothing vocals and the overall tranquil atmosphere make it a standout track on the White Album. While not released as a single, “Dear Prudence” has become a beloved and enduring piece in The Beatles’ catalog, celebrated for its melodic beauty and introspective lyrics.
Dear Prudence written by Lennon/McCartney
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, open up your eyes
Dear Prudence, see the sunny skies
The wind is low, the birds will sing
That you are part of everything
Dear Prudence, won't you open up your eyes?
Look around, 'round ('round, 'round, 'round)
('Round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round)
Look around, 'round, 'round ('round, 'round)
('Round, 'round, 'round, 'round, 'round)
Look around (ahh)
Dear Prudence, let me see you smile
Dear Prudence, like a little child
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see you smile again
Dear Prudence, won't you let me see you smile?
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

Breathe witten by Stephanie Bentley and Holly Lamar
I can feel the magic floating in the air
Being with you gets me that way
I watch the sunlight dance across your face
And I've never been this swept away
All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze
When I'm lying wrapped up in your arms
The whole world just fades away
The only thing I hear
Is the beating of your heart
'Cause I can feel you breathe
It's washing over me
And suddenly, I'm melting into you
There's nothing left to prove
Baby, all we need is just to be
Caught up in the touch
Slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be?
I can feel you breathe
Just breathe
In a way, I know my heart is waking up
As all the walls come tumbling down
Closer than I've ever felt before
And I know, and you know
There's no need for words right now
'Cause I can feel you breathe
Washing over me
And suddenly, I'm melting into you
There's nothing left to prove
Baby, all we need is just to be
Caught up in the touch
The slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be?
I can feel you breathe
Just breathe
Caught up in the touch
Slow and steady rush
Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be?
I can feel you breathe
Just breathe
I can feel the magic floating in the air
Being with you gets me that way

Red written by Taylor Swift
Loving him is like
Driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street
Faster than the wind
Passionate as sin
Ending so suddenly
Loving him is like
Trying to change your mind once you're already flying through the free fall
Like the colors in autumn, so bright
Just before they lose it all
Losing him was blue like I'd never known
Missing him was dark grey, all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
But loving him was red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
(Re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Loving him was red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
(Re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Touching him was like
Realizing all you ever wanted was right there in front of you
Memorizing him was as
Easy as knowing all the words to your old favorite song
Fighting with him was like
Trying to solve a crossword and realizing there's no right answer
Regretting him was like
Wishing you never found out that love could be that strong
Losing him was blue like I'd never known
Missing him was dark grey, all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
But loving him was red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Oh, red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Burning red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
(Re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Remembering him comes in flashbacks
And echoes
Tell myself it's time now
Gotta let go
But moving on from him is impossible
When I still see it all in my head
In burning red
Burning it was red
Oh, losing him was blue like I'd never known
Missing him was dark grey, all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
'Cause loving him was red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Yeah, yeah, red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Oh, burning red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
(Re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
And that's why he's spinning 'round in my head (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Comes back to me, burning red (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
Yeah, yeah (re-e-e-ed, re-e-e-ed)
His love was like
Driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street
Iceberg

After scoring their commercial breakthrough with “I’m Not in Love” from 1975’s The Original Soundtrack, 10cc continued to build on their good fortune with How Dare You. It is a well-crafted album that shows off 10cc’s eccentric humor and pop smarts in equal measure. This time, the hit singles were “I’m Mandy Fly Me” and “Art for Art’s Sake.”

This song, “Iceberg”, is about schizophrenia, a man who follows women, “I’ll always be behind you in the fog” and fantasizes about horrible things he might do to them. He even called her on the phone: “You’ve heard my heavy breathing on the telephone”. He talks about his mother leaving him in a basket on the freeway – so in his imagination, all these women are his mother. Creepy.
Iceberg written by Graham Gouldman and Kevin Godley
Life is a roller coaster that we all ride
Life is a roller coaster that we all ride
Life is a roller coaster that we all ride
Iceberg-I've fallen in love with an
Iceberg-its only the tip of the
Iceberg-I've heard that it's cool
I got class, I got style
But once in a while out on the town
I must go
You'd better wash out your zone
Watch out you stone bone headed woman
Watch out you bone headed man
Iceberg-it's freezin' over Second Avenue
There's not a thing that you can
Iceberg-it's comin' over Second Avenue
You'd better believe there's nothin'
You can do about it
I was an orphan and I couldn't help it
I've been in and out of trouble
Ever since they left me in a basket
On the freeway
It's me that's been doggin' your shadow
It's me that's been a shadowin' your dog
You got me hung up lock and stock and barrel
I'll always be behind you in the fog
So you better not annoy me
Or I'll do somethin' that I might regret
You'd better not annoy me or I'll do
Somethin' that you won't forget in a hurry
And I might be back for some sloppy seconds
You've heard me heavy breathing on the telephone
My word they say that I'm belongin'
In a home for crazy people
But you know I don't belong there
I was an orphan and I couldn't help it
I'd been in and out of trouble
Ever since they left me
In a basket on the freeway
Lie lie lie etc
Die die die etc
Hooray hooray ha ha ha
Hooray ha ha ha
Get down get down get down get down
There's really not a lot that you can do
Lay down lay down lay down lay down
There's really not a lot that you can do
There's really not a lot that you can do
And I might be back for sloppy seconds
Life is a roller coaster that we all ride
Life is a roller coaster that we all ride
Life is a roller coaster that we all ride
Life is a roller coaster that we all ride
