Raised in the San Fernando Valley, he attended Chatsworth High School alongside future stars like Kevin Spacey and Mare Winningham. At 17, he became the youngest student accepted into Juilliard’s Drama Division, where he honed his craft before transitioning from stage to screen. Kilmer’s breakout role came as “Iceman” in Top Gun (1986),
followed by acclaimed performances as Jim Morrison in The Doors (1991), Doc Holliday in Tombstone (1993), and Batman in Batman Forever (1995). His filmography spans genres, including Heat (1995), The Saint (1997), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), and a return as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick (2022). Despite his success, Kilmer was known for being a challenging collaborator, a reputation he addressed in his 2020 memoir I’m Your Huckleberry.
