The Thing From Another World (1951)

I watched this 1951 RKO Pictures release, The Thing From Another World, on Svengoolie. It is a horror/Science Fiction thriller directed by Christian Nyby (Big Sleep, Red River, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train) and produced by Edward Lasker (Big Sky, Tulsa, Reign of Terror) and

Howard Hawks (Scarface, Bringing Up Baby, The Big Sleep, Red River, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Rio Bravo). A UFO crashes near a North Pole research station and an Air Force team is sent to investigate.

The movie stars Margaret Sheridan (One Minute to Zero), Kenneth Tobey (Jim Bowie in Davey Crockett, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, The Great Locomotive Chase, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Billy Jack, The Missiles of October, Gus, Airplane!, Gremlins, Innerspace, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. Single White Female),

Robert Cornthwaite (The War of the Worlds, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, Futureworld, The Naked Monster), Sally Creighton, Eduard Franz (Casablanca, The Ten Commandments, The Jazz Singer), and James Arness as the Monster (Marshal Matt Dillon 20 years in the CBS television series Gunsmoke).

The film was shot at Glacier National Park and interior sets built at a Los Angeles ice storage plant. John Carpenter would re-make this movie in 1982. I liked The Thing from Another World a lot, it is fast paced and the actors do a great job. I’ll give this original version 4.4 out of 5 stars.
