Ace Ventura Pet Detective (1994)

I watched the 1994 Warner Brothers comedy Ace Ventura Pet Detective on TruTV. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve ever seen this one, and I laughed from beginning to end. Ace Ventura is played by the zany Jim Carrey (The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, The Riddler in Batman Forever, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, The Cable Guy, Liar Liar, The Truman Show, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bruce Almighty, Yes Man, Dumb and Dumber To) the Pet Detective who is hired by the Miami Dolphins’ chief publicist Melissa played by

(Monica on Friends, Cocoon: The Return, Mr. Destiny, Scream 1-4, Lauren Miller on Family Ties, Cougar Town) to recover the stolen mascot, the bottlenose dolphin Snowflake.

Other stars of the movie are Sean Young (Stripes, Blade Runner, Dune, Fire Birds, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Blade Runner 2049), Tone Loc (Rapper of  “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina”), Dan Marino (Miami Dolphins quarterback 1983-1999),

Noble Willingham (C.D. Parker in Walker Texas Ranger, Paper Moon, Brubaker, The Howling, Good Morning, Vietnam, City Slickers, Of Mice and Men, Guarding Tess, Blind Horizon), Troy Evans (Teen Wolf, Martians Go Home, Twin Peaks, The Lawnmower Man, Under Siege, Demolition Man, The Stand),

Raynor Scheine (Funny Farm, Ghost Dad, The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear, Fried Green Tomatoes, My Cousin Vinny, The Quick and the Dead, Last Man Standing) and

Tiny Ron (Police Squad, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, Road House, The Rocketeer, Last Man Standing, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager).

Directed by Tom Shadyac (1996 The Nutty Professor, Liar Liar, Patch Adams, Bruce Almighty) and produced by James G. Robinson (Chairman and CEO of Morgan Creek Entertainment – Major League, Pacific Heights, Freejack, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Battlefield Earth, The Art of War, 2011 The Thing)

let Jim Carrey basically re-write the film ad-libbing his hilarious way through. I enjoyed the movie and will give it 3.5 out of 5. For more information read Wikipedia, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.

“I knew this movie was going to either be something that people really went for, or it was going to ruin me completely. From the beginning of my involvement, I said that the character had to be rock ‘n’ roll. He had to be the 007 of pet detectives. I wanted to be unstoppably ridiculous, and they let me go wild.
