The Frozen Ground (2013)

I watched the 2013 Lionsgate Docu-thriller The Frozen Ground on Netflix DVD. It is a Scott Walker film, who both wrote and directed the movie, which was his first. It is a factual based account of the Alaskan State Patrol hunting down a serial killer with the help of the only known victim to have gotten away. The Frozen Ground takes place in and around Anchorage Alaska in 1983. The movie is produced by Curtis Jackson (50 Cent – 13, Setup, Freelancers, Escape Plan movies, The Prince, Spy, Den of Thieves) who also is the pimp in the film.

The other producers are Mark Lowell Ordesky (Critters 3 & 4, Mr. Nice Guy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Jane Fleming (Lovely Molly, Exists, Reality High). Jack Halcombe is played by Nicholas Cage (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Valley Girl, The Cotton Club, Raising Arizona,

Time to Kill, Fire Birds, Deadfall, Leaving Las Vegas, Con Air, 8mm, National Treasure, Lord of War, Ghost Rider, Grindhouse, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Bangkok Dangerous, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Snowden)

and the serial killer, Robert Hansen, is John Cusack ( Sixteen Candles, Better Off Dead, Stand By Me, Grosse Point Blank, Con Air, Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity, Serendipity, The Contract, 2012, Hot Tub Time Machine, The Numbers Station, Cell, Singularity).

Cindy, the victim that got away, is played by Vanessa Hudgens (Singer and actress, High School Musical 3, Bandslam, Sucker Punch, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Spring Breakers, Machete Kills, So You Think You Can Dance).

Other actors are Radha Mitchell (Pitch Black, Phone Booth, Finding Neverland, Silent Hill, Surrogates, Olympus Has Fallen), Jodi Lyn O’Keefe (She’s All That, The Crow: Salvation, Nash Bridges, Prison Break, Te Vampire Diaries),

Dean Norris (Lethal Weapon 2, Hard To Kill, Total Recall, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Lawnmower Man, The Firm, Starship Troopers, Evan Almighty, Get the Gringo, Tremors, Breaking Bad, Under the Dome, Colonel Richard Williams on The Big Bang Theory)

and Kurt Fuller (The Running Man, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, Red Heat, Ghostbusters II, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Wayne’s World, Pushing Tin, Scary Movie, Anger Management, Superhero Movie, Timecop, Supernatural, Psych).

I thought this movie was really good and will give it 4 out of 5 stars. The DVD special features are excellent with the making of, deleted scenes and interviews with all the main people

including the Alaskan State Patrol officer, Glenn Flothe, that was heavily involved in the actual investigation. I’ll give the special features a 5 out of 5. For more information read Wikipedia, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
