I watched the 2021 Disney’s Jungle Cruise on Netflix DVD. This fantasy adventure film was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop, The Commuter) and is based on Walt Disney’s eponymous theme park attraction. It tells the story of the captain of a small riverboat who takes a scientist and her brother through a jungle in search of the Tree of Life while competing against a German expedition and cursed conquistadors. The filming took place in Hawaii and Georgia, from May through September of 2018.
You get some jungle cruise ride, some Indiana Jones, a little Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jumanji all wrapped up in this unique story filled with curses, monsters, and hidden treasures.
Frank’s puns are derived from the skipper’s lines on the original theme park ride. The film has several elements referencing Dr. Albert Falls, a fictional character at Disneyland who has discovered Schweitzer Falls and has founded the Jungle Navigation Company[1].
This movie is very punny!
- The rocks you see here are in the river are sandstone. But some people just take them for granite. It’s one of my boulder attractions.
- If you look to the left of the boat, you’ll see some very playful toucans. They’re playing their favorite game of beak-wrestling. The only drawback is, only two can play.
- You know, before this, I used to work in an orange juice factory, but I got canned. Couldn’t concentrate. Yeah, they put the squeeze on me, too.
- You know, they say the boa constrictor right there is capable of eating up to 500 pounds per sitting. Personally, I find that very hard to swallow.

Jungle Cruise was produced by John Davis, John Fox, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Dwayne Johnson. I thought the movie was a good story, interesting, and funny. I will give this adventure a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
