So what counts as the lots of members in this fictitious game I’m making up as I go? Basically I’m counting the most members they used in their group throughout their entire history. I’ll list some here with some of their membership. I will also list some bands that just had a lot, not especially the most.

Parliament-Funkadelic, also known as P-Funk, is a legendary American funk music collective spearheaded by George Clinton, originating in the late 1960s from two separate but intertwined bands—Parliament and Funkadelic.

Fusing psychedelic rock, deep groove funk, soul, R&B, and Afrofuturist themes, the group developed an expansive and surreal musical universe that pushed the boundaries of performance and production. Parliament brought a polished, horn-driven style, while Funkadelic leaned into guitar-heavy, psychedelic rock, and together they created a catalog of landmark albums like Mothership Connection (1975), Maggot Brain (1971), and One Nation Under a Groove (1978).

Over the years, the P-Funk collective has included more than 200 members, making it one of the largest and most fluid musical ensembles in modern music history. Key contributors include Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, Eddie Hazel, Garry Shider, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Michael Hampton,

and Junie Morrison, among countless others who passed through the revolving door of Clinton’s ever-evolving musical empire. The P-Funk mythology extended beyond music into comic book-like characters, elaborate stage shows featuring a landing spaceship (the Mothership), and a sprawling narrative that redefined Black

musical expression in the 20th century. Parliament-Funkadelic was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, securing their status as one of the most influential and visionary collectives in popular music.

Blood, Sweat & Tears is an American jazz-rock band formed in 1967 in New York City by keyboardist and vocalist Al Kooper, blending rock, jazz, blues, and soul with a distinctive horn section that set them apart from their contemporaries. After their 1968 debut Child Is Father to the Man,

which featured Kooper, the band underwent a dramatic reorganization under drummer Bobby Colomby, bringing in Canadian vocalist David Clayton-Thomas and achieving massive success with their self-titled second album in 1968, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year and produced hits like “Spinning Wheel,” “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” and “And When I Die.” Renowned for their complex arrangements and crossover appeal, BS&T became a staple of late ’60s and early ’70s radio.

Their popularity was challenged by frequent personnel shifts and stylistic changes. Over the decades, the band has seen over 170 members pass through its ranks, including top-tier jazz and rock musicians such as Lew Soloff, Randy Brecker, Jerry Hyman, Steve Katz, Chuck Winfield,

and Jaco Pastorius (who briefly played with them in the mid-1970s). While their peak years were brief, BS&T continued touring under the name with evolving lineups into the 21st century, sometimes as more of a franchise than a consistent group, with Colomby retaining

control of the brand and overseeing new iterations. Despite their revolving-door membership, the band’s fusion of rock with brass-driven jazz arrangements left a lasting impact on genres from progressive rock to adult contemporary.

Santana is an iconic American Latin rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966 by Mexican-born guitarist Carlos Santana, blending rock, Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, blues,

and Latin American percussion in a groundbreaking fusion that gained widespread attention after their electrifying performance at Woodstock in 1969. Their debut self-titled album and its follow-up, Abraxas (1970), featuring classics like “Evil Ways,” “Black Magic Woman,” and “Oye Como Va,” catapulted them to international fame.

Carlos Santana has remained the sole constant member while the band has cycled through over 70 musicians across decades, including key figures like Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Michael Shrieve, David Brown, José “Chepito” Areas, Mike Carabello, Tom Coster, and Chester D. Thompson.

The 1970s lineup evolved toward jazz-fusion influences before shifting to more mainstream rock and pop in the ’80s and ’90s. In 1999, Santana experienced a massive commercial revival with Supernatural, which featured a new generation of collaborators (e.g., Rob Thomas, Lauryn Hill)

and earned nine Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. The band’s ever-changing lineup has accommodated multiple musical directions while retaining its multicultural rhythmic foundation, with occasional reunions of the original classic lineup, such as the Santana IV project in 2016.

Santana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and Carlos Santana continues to lead the band on tour, sustaining its legacy as one of the most enduring and influential groups in rock history.
