I watched the 2021 Warner Bros. Pictures Animation/Live Action /Comedy movie “Tom and Jerry” on Netflix DVD. The movie is based on the classic cartoon characters created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Jerry takes up residence in a posh hotel that is about to host the webbing of the century. Kayla has faked her way into being hired at this hotel for the wedding planning and teams up with Tom to rid the premises of that mouse. The trouble is foreseeable!
Tom and Jerry play themselves in this movie. They’ve been around since 1940 and I loved them as a kid (and as a teenager and adult). Spike Bulldog is also in the cast, causing the same cat-chasing drama as always. Butch Cat is in the mean cat gang that torments Tom.
passion for 2D animation which is evident during the wonderfully animated film. Kayla is played by Chloë Grace Moretz (from Atlanta Georgia, The Amityville Horror, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Hugo, Kick-Ass 2, Dark Shadows,
2013 Carrie, The Equalizer, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, 2019 The Addams Family), Michael Peña (Gone in Sixty Seconds, World Trade Center, Shooter, Battle: Los Angeles, The Lincoln Lawyer, Tower Heist,
Turbo, American Hustle, Ant-Man, The Martian, CHiPs, A Wrinkle in Time, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Extinction, The Mule, TV episodes of Roswell, The Shield, Chozen, Gracepoint, Narcos: Mexico),
Avengers Endgame, My Spy, TV episodes of Community, The Masked Singer), Pallavi Sharda ( Australian film actress of Indian ancestry) and
Patsy Ferran (a Spanish-British actress). The positives of this movie are the animation co-existing with the live action. It looked like the cast were interacting with the cartoon characters. Tom and Jerry were classic, everything I remembered of their antics. The negative, for me, was the soundtrack. I thought it was horrible and I would never re-watch this movie because of it. I would have given this movie a 4 but because of the terrible music selection, I’ll give this movie 2 out of 5 stars. For more information read Wikipedia, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
