It was a going to be a hot one, probably 94 degrees. We got a few launches in before the angry clouds got closer. It ended in one of the biggest rain storms I have seen in a long while. We were able to get Kevin’s launch pads when the rain lightened up about an hour later. We still had a good time.
Kevin’s Scud 1B is a beautiful scratch built creation he designed, but I thought I’d look into the actual missles.
Scud missiles are a series of tactical ballistic missiles developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War, known for their use by various nations, particularly during conflicts in the Middle East. The initial model, R-11 (SS-1B), entered service in the 1950s, and subsequent versions, such as the R-17 (SS-1C Scud-B), increased range and payload capabilities.
These missiles can deliver conventional, chemical, biological, or nuclear warheads. Scuds gained notoriety during the Gulf War when Iraq launched them at Israel and coalition forces. Their relatively simple technology and wide proliferation make them a persistent threat in modern warfare.
