My Mother got a 1973 Ford Maverick from Friendly Ford in Decatur, Georgia where my Dad worked at the time. As I was turning 15 years old, that May, I got my learners license and drove her car most of the time.

Uni-Ball Pens
My favorite pens are the Uni-ball’s made by the Mitsubishi Pencil Company Limited of Japan. In North America the main office is in Wheaton, Illinois. The company was founded by Niroku Masaki in 1887 as the Masaki Pencil Manufacturing Company until after World War II when it was renamed The Mitsubishi Pencil Company.
Secret Squirrel
When I was a child I loved Secret Squirrel, the spy, designation 000, created by Hanna-Barbera. The series debut was September 12, 1965 in The World of Atom Ant and Secret Squirrel prime-time special on NBC. The series was called The Atom Ant/Secret Squirrel Show and aired from October 2, 1965 until September 2, 1967.
Salisbury Steak
I recently bought a frozen meal of Salisbury Steaks, 6 of them in brown gravy, at Aldi. They are delicious, just as I remember from many years ago when I last had one, maybe in a TV Dinner, probably 40 years ago. It got me to wondering, what exactly is a Salisbury Steak?

About 1974 I was fishing with my cousin, Glenn, at Providence Lake , near Alpharetta, Georgia. We had rigged our flat bottom, aluminum, boat with a trolling motor and a depth finder. We found the place, near the dam, where a small creek bed connected with the main creek channel, about 12 feet deep.

When I was a kid, and there was a train coming, I always wanted it to be a Chessie System train. I didn’t live near tracks so I had to be on the road with my parents to get a chance. I would hear my Dad sigh when the crossing signals started but I wanted to see it and would even count the cars.
Coal Tar Creosote
Ever time we use the Coal Tar Topical solution at our compounding pharmacy it takes me back to when I was a kid. The smell is the same as telephone poles or walking alongside the railroad tracks. I thought I would do a little research on this product. This Coal Tar Solution is used to treat eczema, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, and other skin disorders. What I was smelling at the railroad tracks was Coal Tar Creosote.
Big Apple Supermarket
When I was a kid in Alpharetta, Georgia, Mother would drive 5 miles south to Roswell, Georgia to do the grocery shopping. Big Apple was one of the stores we would frequent in the 1960’s.
Starduster CB Antenna
Back in the Citizen Band (CB) radio days (mid 70’s) I had an Antenna Specialists Starduster. I installed it on a 20 foot galvanized pole from the peak of my family home in Alpharetta, Georgia. This put the top of the antenna at 40 feet. I don’t remember where I purchased the Starduster but the poles, mounts, ground wire, coaxial cable and guy wires all came from the Roswell, Georgia Radio Shack. I ran the coax down the side of the chimney, into the crawl space, and then back up through the floor of my bedroom. This was one of the most popular antennas of the 1970’s, omni-directional with a 1/4 wave ground plane and 9 foot diameter. They claimed it had a 5 db gain, which is doubted by most, but the antenna worked well and was highly regarded in the CB world around me.
Toilet Paper
Toilet Paper was recorded being used in China in the 6th century AD and mass production in the 14th century. I will be concerned here with the toilet paper, in rolls, that we are used to today. The first known patent was in 1883 for a roll dispenser with a cutting edge since the rolls were not perforated yet. In 1891, inventor of perforated rolls, Seth Wheeler obtained a patent. His drawings clear up the proper way to hang a roll of Toilet Paper.
