The Temptations – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame

The “Classic Five” lineup, consisting of Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, and David Ruffin, is widely regarded as the most successful and influential period for The Temptations.

The Temptations originated in Detroit, Michigan, and were formed in 1960. Initially named “The Elgins,” the group was a merger of two Detroit-based vocal groups, The Primes (which included Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams) and The Distants (which included Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, and Elbridge “Al” Bryant). They eventually signed with Motown Records and changed their name to The Temptations in 1961.

Elton John – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame

Elton John’s career total to 68 Billboard Hot 100 entries, a run that began with “Border Song,” which marked his Billboard chart debut on Aug. 15, 1970.

Sir Elton John, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, in Pinner, Middlesex, England, is a legendary British singer, songwriter, and pianist. Raised in a council house by his maternal grandparents, Elton displayed a prodigious talent for music from an early age, learning to play the piano by ear at just four years old. His parents recognized his musical gift and encouraged his pursuits. He later attended the Royal Academy of Music on a scholarship but dropped out at 17 to pursue a career in music.

Kasenetz and Katz – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame – Gummy Award

My second Gummy Award goes to Kasenetz and Katz

Kasenetz and Katz created the concept of bubblegum music. Neil Bogart[1] of Buddah Records asked the duo to recommend a marketing name for their music. They defined the sound and spirit of the bubblegum era, helming quintessential if interchangeable records from the Ohio Express, the 1910 Fruitgum Company.

Holland-Dozier-Holland – Doyle’s Space: Music Hall of Fame – Songwriters Award

My second inductee(s) for my Songwriters Award is another team, this time Holland-Dozier-Holland.

Holland-Dozier-Holland (H-D-H) was a highly successful songwriting and production team in the 1960s, responsible for creating numerous hit songs for the legendary Motown record label. The trio consisted of Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Eddie Holland.
