Big Sur UFO: A Vandenberg AFB UFO Incident

“No UFO reported, investigated and evaluated by the Air Force was ever an indication of threat to our national security.”

The 1964 Vandenberg Air Force Base (AFB) UFO incident, often referred to as the “Big Sur UFO” case, centers on claims made by former U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Robert Jacobs. In September 1964, Jacobs was involved in filming missile test launches at Vandenberg AFB, California.

CATO of a D12-5 motor!

There was rain early Saturday morning but the weather report lowered the chance to slim for the afternoon so we gave it a try. The sun tried to peek out but pretty much failed. The temperature was around 56 and the winds blew from 10-15 mph. Overall we had a good launch and a lot of fun as usual.

Kevin started us with a Flash Pan launch.

Wow, what a beautiful day! There was not a cloud in the sky, light winds, and the temperature was in the low 50s, very comfortable. We had one Cato, but most of the flights were perfect, most landing for easy recovery by Wyatt, who volunteered to recover most of the flights.

Joe flew a lot of his mini engine rockets today.

A little windy but a beautiful day. With a nice blue sky, and a high in the low 70s, we met at noon to fly a few more rockets. Everything went pretty well, had one lawn dart, but no CATOs, and we recovered everything with no issues. Another great day launching rockets.

The AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) is a modern, radar-guided missile developed by Raytheon.

Another beautiful day, but super hot for the first day of Fall 2024. The high was 92 degrees with 89% humidity, barely a breeze. We still had a good launch, beginning early and leaving about lunchtime. We had a good launch, with the rocket recoveries being short walks.

Kevin’s scratch-built Bullet Skeet flew spectacularly on 3 x C5-0s. I also learned how to spell Hors d’oeuvre.

We decided to get an early start and beat the heat. It was 72 degrees F at 9am and 84 degrees F when we left around noon. I noticed that it was up to 90 degrees F when we left the restaurant, where we had lunch, at about 1:30 pm. The sky was clear with a slightly increasing breeze through the morning. We had a great time.

Vernon Estes, born on September 19, 1930, and passed away on August 1, 2021, was an American entrepreneur and pioneer in model rocketry.

It was another hot day, so we decided to meet at 9am, ahead of the afternoon heat. There was no wind to speak of, so the rockets didn’t drift too far. We had just enough of a breeze to be comfortable in the shade of our canopies. It was a great day of flying rockets once again.

Rain-out after 6 launches

It was a going to be a hot one, probably 94 degrees. We got a few launches in before the angry clouds got closer. It ended in one of the biggest rain storms I have seen in a long while. We were able to get Kevin’s launch pads when the rain lightened up about an hour later. We still had a good time.

The TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) is the iconic time machine and spacecraft used by Doctor Who.

It was a hot one today. We decided to met at 9:00am to get ahead of what was to be a 101 degree day. I’m sure it was in the 90’s but luckily we had a light breeze and the humidity was only about 40%. As usual, we had a great time launching rockets for a few hours.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory was founded by a Satinist?

His experiments with solid rocket fuel led to significant advancements in propulsion technology, laying the groundwork for future space missions.

John “Jack” Whiteside Parsons, a founder of the legendary Jet Propulsion Laboratory and a maverick visionary honored with a moon crater bearing his name, gave no early hint of the inner stirrings that propelled him to worship the devil and lead an extraordinary double life: respected scientist by day, dedicated occultist by night.
